Neighbirds
Is a children’s picture book in the making.
Written and illustrated by me.
Logline
Hidden within the forest, there’s a cozy little street where four feathered friends call home. Among them is Kip, a small chicken who still has a lot to learn. When Kip’s feathers get ruffled by a missed party invitation, he decides to take matters into his own wings.
The first sketch
This image above serves as the opening page of my book, made during my time in the Animation Master program at St. Joost. Initially an exploration of artistic styles, but I happened to like it a lot. From there, the story of ‘Neighbirds’ started to take form.
The project is a picture book. However, it’s also a dream of mine to expand this world into a cute animated series.
Learning to feel
The core of the story is the aim to normalize emotions and teach children how to recognize and cope with them.
The picture book focuses on anger, often stemming from hurt. Despite its stigma, I believe anger offers valuable insights into ourselves, and it’s important to learn to accept and express it safely.
